ALFRED, N.Y. (February 10, 2018) – After beating Alfred State by 11 points in their first meeting, the SUNY Delhi men's basketball team's fortunes were reversed Saturday in the rematch, falling at the Pioneers' gym by an 83-66 score. The game marked the first of a weekend road trip for the Broncos, who will continue to head westward on Sunday to face Villa Maria on Sunday at 4:00 p.m. Delhi is now 15-13 and were ranked 13th in the latest USCAA Division II Coaches' Poll.
Alfred State led the entire game, taking as much as a 33-point lead in the second half. Delhi shot 31.0 percent (22-for-71) to the Pioneers' 46.4 percent (32-for-69). Alfred State led, 57-37, in rebounds, 50-22 in points in the paint and 47-28 in bench points. A total of 13 Pioneers scored Saturday, compared to nine for the Broncos.
Carlos Ithier led all scorers with 17 points, making 6-of-7 from the floor and 5-of-6 from behind the arc. Jordan Fragale collected 13 points with five rebounds. Jake Slobe added 11 points, with Damon Denteh scoring seven points and Payton Dean tallying six points and five boards. Delhi finished 9-for-28 on 3-pointers and 13-for-22 on free throws.
After Sunday's meeting with the Vikings, SUNY Delhi has one more regular season contest at SUNY ESF on Tuesday before returning to Villa Maria for the NIAC Tournament on Feb. 23.
