ATHENS, Ten. (February 28, 2018) – SUNY Delhi men's lacrosse battled Tennessee Wesleyan to a second-half scoring spree Wednesday afternoon. With wet weather forcing the Broncos and Bulldogs to face off in muddy elements, Delhi, behind just 1-0 at halftime, answered with three straight goals to start the third quarter. The Bulldogs, however, scored six of the next eight goals to hand Delhi a 7-5 defeat. Wednesday was the third of Delhi's season-opening, four-match spring break trip, which concludes at Asbury on Friday at 7:00 p.m.
Jacob Nygard got the Broncos on the board with an equalizer with 12:47 left in the third. Malik Talbert put Delhi ahead on a score with 11:26 to go in the third, and assisted on Jeremy Leary's ensuing score for a 3-1 lead with 6:48 remaining in the quarter. Tennessee Wesleyan went on to score four straight goals between the third and fourth quarters to lead, 5-3, before Luke Anderson scored on a power play and Talbert notched his team-best second goal of the match to tie things up at 5-5 with 5:19 to play. It would be their last scores of the match, though, as the Bulldogs countered with Dalton O'Connell Zradicka's third goal of the day and another score from Jaylan Steen to close things out.
Goalkeeper Eric Morse finished with 11 saves on the afternoon to Tennessee Wesleyan's Patrick DeMoss' 13 saves, as Delhi trailed just 37-34 on shots. The Broncos led, 15-14, in clears and won six faceoffs to the Bulldogs' nine. Delhi grabbed 12 ground balls to TW's 22, and forced the Bulldogs into nine turnovers, while turning it over themselves 12 times.
