Mike Burud is set to begin his first season as SUNY Delhi's men's and women's swimming and diving head coach for the 2018-19 season.
From 2014 to 2018, Mike was part of the coaching staff at NCAA Division I Marist College in Poughkeepsie, N.Y., where he recently earned his Master's in Business Administration with a focus in Ethical Leadership. Over the last four seasons, Burud helped continue the women's team's dominance at the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Championships with team titles in 2015, 2016 and 2017 to mark eight straight league crowns. He also aided in the men's team placing second at the MAAC Championships in each of his four years and posting a stellar 10-1 dual record this past season. A total of 27 varsity records fell between the men's and women's programs during Burud's time with the Red Foxes.
Burud also worked extensively in the USA Club Swimming realm as a coach within the Metropolitan LSC. Under his guidance, swimmers on the Northern Dutchess Aquatic Club as well as The Red Fox Aquatic Club have qualified for meets such as Sr. Metropolitan Championships, Speedo Sectionals, and Junior Nationals. He has fostered lasting impressions on kids throughout both teams.
Burud is a native of Red Hook, N.Y. and attended Red Hook Central High School. He competed at the Empire State Games all four years of high school, winning seven gold medals and four silver medals, and qualified all four years for the Speedo Championship Sectional Meet. The former Raider competed for Northern Duchess Aquatic Club, setting numerous records which still stand today.
His talents took him to St. Bonaventure University, a NCAA Division I Franciscan college in western New York. He was a team captain his senior year, during which he set a school record in the 200m breaststroke, while earning a NCAA 'B' qualifier and third place at the Atlantic 10 Conference Championships in the 100m breaststroke. Burud helped the team to back-to-back A-10 Championships for the first time in school history his junior and senior years in 2013 and 2014. He graduated with a Bachelors in Sports Studies, minoring in Sports Management and Business Administration.
Burgin, a native of Long Island New York came to the area after graduating from SUNY Delhi College in 1979. She completed a Bachelors degree in 1982 and Masters degree in 1988 from SUNY Oneonta College. Burgin began coaching diving in 1999. She was trained under the guidance of Gary Zurn and has attended clinics with Dr. Ron O'Brien, John Wingfield, Ronn Jenkins, and Dick Kimball.
Burgin is the head diving coach at SUNY Delhi College and Hartwick College. Burgin coached two divers for SUNY Delhi to All American status in 2001. Burgin also coached a Hartwick male diver that broke all of the school records on both the one and three meter boards in 2004. For the first time in Hartwick College diving history, Burgin co-coached three male divers into the top seven at UNYSSA Conference Championships on both boards in 2004. Burgin was named Diving Coach of the meet and coached the male diver of the meet at the UNYSSA Conference Championships in 2004. She also co-coached a diver to All American status at the 2004 NCAA Division III Men's National Diving Championships.
She has been the head diving coach of the Dynamic Divers Dive Club since 2000. Burgin has run six US Diving Invitational Meets from 2000 - 2004. She assisted in running the Southern New York Diving Association 2003 Championship meet.
She coached a female diver to first place at High School Sectionals in 2004 and 2005. She has served as a judge at the NCAA Division III Men's Diving Championships and the 2004 Empire State Games.
