Johnny Baez, originally from Nyack, New York, transferred to SUNY Delhi in the fall of 2004, after his freshman year of college. As a SUNY Delhi Sophomore, Baez became an instant leader in the Bronco's Men's Cross Country and Track programs. He won four individual NJCAA National Championships in cross country, in the 1,500 meters, 800 meters, and 1,00 meters indoor. His victory at the 2005 Indoor Championships marked the only NJCAA Indoor Track Championship in the history of SUNY Delhi's Athletics program. Additionally, he was a member of the NJCAA outdoor 4x800 meter relay championship team. In total, he earned NJCAA All-American honors five times. Baez helped the Broncos achieve NJCAA Team Championships in outdoor track and field and cross country in 2005.
At the time of his induction, Baez is still a member of the school record Indoor Distance Medley Relay Squad, running the lead off the 1,200 meters leg. Additionally, his 800 meters performance of 1:51:57 is still the fastest time in program history.
Baez earned his associate degree in Hospitality and Food Service in 2005 and transferred on scholarship to the University of South Carolina. Where he competed at the NCAA Division I level and earned a bachelor's degree in Criminal Justice. Today, he is a successful business owner and resides in South Carolina, near Columbia, with his wife and son.
