Delhi, NY - Robb Munro in his thirteenth year at SUNY Delhi has been announced as Director of Athletics. He was appointed to the position after spending the last three and a half years as Associate Athletics Director, following his first nine years as head coach of the cross country and track & field programs, guiding the teams to numerous championships and outstanding recognition, academically and athletically, during the college's transition to NCAA Division III.
"I am absolutely thrilled to announce that Robb Munro will be stepping into the role of our new Director of Athletics! Robb’s journey with SUNY Delhi spans an impressive 12 years, during which he has not only been a winning coach but has also excelled in the role of Associate Director of Athletics. His dedication and leadership have been pivotal in our successful transition from the NJCAA to our current NCAA Division III status said, John Padovani, Interim Vice President for Student Life. ‘Robb’s commitment to excellence and his unwavering support for our student-athletes have made a significant impact on our athletic programs. His vision and passion for sports have helped shape the future of Bronco Athletics, and we are incredibly fortunate to have him at the helm as we continue to build on our proud tradition.”
"Thank you to Vice President Padovani and President Bonderoff for this opportunity. Delhi has a terrific history in athletics and I am so pleased to have been here during all the eras from NJCAA, to USCAA and NAIA and finally NCAA III. Through every level, Delhi has made impactful differences in the lives of student-athletes through the diligent work of the coaches, athletic trainers and support staff, said Robb Munro. ‘I look forward to supporting these incredible professionals so they can continue to instill the growth mindset in their teams and support these students through their journey to the careers they desire, while giving them the best student-athlete experience possible."
Munro joined the SUNY Delhi Athletics Department in 2012 to take over the college's storied cross country and track & field programs. His success was not measured by wins and feats as much as it was by sustained excellence during SUNY Delhi's transition to four-year athletics and NCAA Division III. Munro helped close out his teams' time in the NJCAA with a women's track & field national title in 2014 and the men's track & field national crown in 2015. Upon entering the USCAA, his men's cross country teams posted four straight national titles between 2016 and 2019, and even coached one NAIA Indoor Track & Field All-American in winter 2018.
In their transition to NCAA Division III, the Broncos have combined for nine ACAA and NAC conference championships over five years between cross country and track & field. Munro and his squads found instant success at the All-Atlantic Region Track & Field Conference (AARTFC) Championships, totaling four victories, two meet records, and at least one podium finish at every indoor and outdoor championship since joining in 2018-19.
Munro's student-athletes have excelled just as brilliantly in the classroom, with five of his students earning the SUNY Chancellor's Award for Student Excellence in six years, along with two receiving the USCAA Student-Athlete of the Year. He had one student amass back-to-back CoSIDA Academic All-America selections, with another two taking CoSIDA Academic All-District.
