Witt, Brunt Land AMCC Sportsmanship Honors

NORTH BOSTON, N.Y. (June 13, 2019) – Following the SUNY Delhi men's and women's swimming and diving team's first-ever appearance at the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference (AMCC) Championships in February, the conference awarded Julia Witt (Webster, NY / Webster Thomas) and James Brunt (Charleston, IL / Vestal) with nods to its All-Sportsmanship Team.

The Broncos just concluded their first NCAA Division III season and first year under head coach Mike Burud. They also became new members of the AMCC, competing at the league championships in mid-February at Penn State Behrend in Erie, Pa.

Coach Burud on Julia Witt:

"Julia came into this season with a great attitude and the mindset that she wanted to succeed. She eagerly listened to any and all instruction and changes that I asked her to make. She encouraged everyone to work hard and push themselves at meets and especially at practice. Her worker-bee mentality paid off throughout the season and especially at the end of the season. She was able to place 8th, 9th, and 11th at our Conference Championships; on a very competitive women's side of the meet. Her time drops were spectacular. I think Julia's crowning moment was on the last day of AMCCs when she absolutely smashed her previous best time in the 1650 freestyle garnering her a Varsity Record along the way."

Coach Burud on James Brunt:

"James came to the team back in September with a limited knowledge and ability when it came to swimming. He could "swim," but was by no means a "swimmer." That didn't stop him from committing to helping the team. James dove in head first and worked tireless all season to become a better swimmer. He showed exactly the level of commitment, accountability, and passion for the sport that I love to see in my athletes. James went from hardly swimming to being one of our best contributors. I'm confident that James has and will continue to make our swimming and diving team better every day."
