SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (December 19, 2018) – The American Collegiate Athletic Association (ACAA) recently announced its all-academic recipients, which featured a pair of SUNY Delhi men's soccer players. Junior Christian Quinde (Peekskill, NY / Peekskill) and sophomore Michael Zerniak (Wolcott, NY / North-Rose Wolcott) were named to the ACAA Honor Roll. Quinde is an Architecture major with a 3.25 GPA, while Zerniak majors in Carpentry with a 3.30 GPA.
Quinde and Zerniak were included in a list of 46 student-athletes conference-wide that hold cumulative grade point averages of 3.25 to 3.49. To be eligible, student-athletes must have completed two semesters at their current institution and have participated in at least one contest during the current season.
In their first year as official NCAA Division III members, the Broncos chalked up their highest season win total since 2008, and further improved from a 9-8 campaign in 2017. Under second-year head coach Brian Mitko, the team started the year with a modest 3-2 record, then did not lose a game from then on. Delhi won its next nine contests to finish the regular season with the ACAA's best record. The squad headed to Finlandia University (Mich.) for the ACAA Tournament, where they squared off against Pine Manor in the semifinals, winning a 2-1 double-overtime contest. In the championship match against Thomas More, Delhi battled the Saints to a 1-1 draw, with a 4-1 penalty kick ledger in favor of the Saints deciding the conference champion. It marked the team's second straight year reaching their conference championship match.
The team featured five USCAA All-Americans in Stefan Correia, Alhasane Sako, Brody Rettle, Marcos Andrino and Jostin Sarmiento. In addition, all five players, along with Matthew Cassidy, received All-ACAA accolades. Correia was named the ACAA's Defensive Player of the Year, while Andrino earned the conference's Goalie of the Year award. Mitko was named ACAA Coach of the Year.
