SYRACUSE, N.Y. - First-year athlete Emma Pelkey made an immediate impact in her debut season with the SUNY Delhi Broncos, capping off a remarkable campaign by earning SUNYAC Indoor Track & Field Rookie of the Year honors.
Pelkey’s standout moment came at the SUNYAC Indoor Championships, where she claimed the individual title in the pentathlon with a new lifetime best of 3,069 points, topping the field with first-place finishes in the high jump (1.54m) and shot put (10.90m), as well as a third-place finish in the 800-meter run. Her conference championship performance placed her second all-time in program history in the pentathlon.
Throughout the season, Pelkey showed steady improvement, posting a personal best in the shot put with a toss of 10.44 meters in the weeks leading up to the conference meet. She also contributed to the team in other events, including a fourth-place finish in the high jump at 1.48 meters and a second-place relay finish alongside her teammates.
Her season concluded at the AARTFC Championships, where Pelkey surpassed 3,000 points in the pentathlon for the second consecutive week , earning top freshman honors in the event. In just one season, Pelkey has established herself as one of the most promising multi-event athletes in Delhi’s history.
