Collegeville, PA - The Delhi track and field team continued their incredible year with a fantastic showing at the All Atlantic Regional Track and Field Conference (AARTFC) Championships. The team combined to win all three relay events they entered and the women's team finished an impressive second place overall in the field of 65 teams.
On day one, the team got off to a great start with both the men's and women's 400 meter relay teams qualifying for the final as well as Shaesha Johnson advancing to the 100 meter final. Kicking off the teams scoring for the meet was Charlotte Warner who placed second in the 3000 meter steeplechase with a new program record time of 11:05.59. That mark just eclipsed her own record set in the same meet last year.
However, the highlight of day one came in the women's 4x400 meter relay. This event was filled with teams that coordinated a match race to try to get a time that would advance to the NCAA Championships. After a strong first leg from Zoe Rodi in 57.8 seconds, Miranda Cole blew the race open, splitting 54.4 seconds. This built a strong lead for the Broncos. Amanda Intrieri took the third leg in 57.06 and Gabrielle Brown ran fourth in 57.76 seconds and was able to hold off the late charge from Rochester and Johns Hopkins. With the win, the women took another three seconds off the school record for the event, running 3:47.15 and punched their ticket to the NCAA Championships!
Day two of the meet started a parade of Broncos posting top finishes. The day started off with the women's 400 meter relay. The team of Zoe Rodi, Shaesha Johnson, Gabrielle Brown and Miranda Cole ran away from the field to win in 47.22 seconds. They were then followed by the men's race where the team Jabez Primus, Cristhian Cuevas, Deron Davis and Marco Gordon to the title to complete the Bronco sweep of the event. Gordon ran a stong anchor leg, eventualy separating from the field to take the win in 41.00 seconds.
The other win for the Broncos came from Amanda Intrieri in the 800 meter run. Amanda came through the first lap in fourth place and was able to navigate the field in the second lap to take the win in 2:10.80.
Other top performances for the Broncos came from Shaesha Johnson who placed second in the 100 meters in 11.90 seconds and Richard Fuller who placed sixth in the 400 meters in 48.74.
The women's team piled up 46 points to finish the meet in second place as a team. The men's teams 13 points were good for 21st place in the field of 64.
Next up for the Broncos will be the NCAA III Championships to be held in LaCrosse Wisconsin.
