Philadelphia, PA - The SUNY Delhi Track and Field teams made a trip to Philadelphia for the prestigious Penn Relays with a big goals. The women's sprint medley relay team delivered on the goal, establishing a new NCAA III Record for the event.
The relay team of Shaesha Johnson, Zoe Rodi, Miranda Cole and Amanda Intrieri finished in 3:58.39, running the fastest time in NCAA III history. The time took nearly a second off of the old record of 3:59.32 set in 2022 by Gustavus Adolphus. When asked about the performance, head coach Alex Devine said "This is a huge accomplishment for these women. They have re-written the programs record books over the past two seasons and tto add a national record to that resume speaks to their hard work and deidation. They went out there today racing big name programs and were not intimidated by the moment. While records are made to be broken, and this one certainly will be someday, these four women will always have the memory of breaking a national record."
Johnson, Rodi and Cole all earned All-American last spring in the 4x100 relay when they broke the program and SUNYAC records. Cole also finished as the national runner-up in the 200 meters last spring. Both Johnson and Intrieri are coming off indoor seasons that saw them both earn first team All-American in the 60 meters and 800 meters respectively.
Coach Devine added "we will enjoy this for sure, but these women also have bigger goals in mind later in the season. This was a box they wanted to check and they did it. This will only make them hungrier for more as the season progresses."
The men's 4x200 relay team of Peair Industrious, Deron Davis, Jabez Primus, and Cristhian Cuevas also established a new program record running 1:27.31 to place 12th overall. The previous record was set last year in the same meet by Davis, Primus, Cuevas and Ransom Dutcher. The same four men teamed up in the 4x100 relay to post a time of 42.48 for 17th place overall.
The team will compete at Vassar College for a small tuneup and then head off to the SUNYAC Championships next weekend.
