DELHI, N.Y. — SUNY Delhi Athletics has named Andrew Gardner head coach of its men's lacrosse program, Director of Athletics Robb Munro announced. Gardner takes the reins as the Broncos prepare for their first season as a full time member of the State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC).
Gardner arrives after building a reputation as one of the region's top defensive minds. He spent the 2026 season as defensive coordinator at SUNY Potsdam, where his unit powered the Bears to a 10-5 record and a run to the SUNYAC semifinals. Potsdam placed six players on the All-SUNYAC teams in 2026 — three first team, three second team — and Gardner's defense produced the conference's Rookie of the Year, freshman defenseman Damyn LeClair, who ranked among the league leaders in caused turnovers and ground balls.
Before Potsdam, Gardner served as defensive coordinator at NCAA Division II Wheeling University, helping the Cardinals reach the postseason in 2025 and developing multiple all-conference honorees. A Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist, he pairs defensive scheming with a background in athlete development, performance training, and injury prevention.

His desire to continue to build positive culture, to work as part of a team within the department and on campus, and his knowledge of the game make him a great fit. He has also spent time coaching in the SUNYAC, making him uniquely prepared to lead the program into that conference and our next chapter. We are confident he can continue to build on the great work done by Coach Miller to continue to elevate the program."

A 2018 graduate of Alfred University, Gardner earned a B.A. in Criminal Justice Studies and Sociology and was a four-year goaltender for the Saxons (2014–2018). He added a Master's in Management from SUNY Potsdam in 2026. A native of Whitney Point, N.Y., Gardner returns to Upstate New York to lead the Broncos.
