Softball Falls to Potsdam in Doubleheader Action

Delhi, NY - The SUNY Delhi softball team returned to play for their fourth doubleheader in the last five days, taking on the Bears of Potsdam for an afternoon doubleheader.

In game one, the Broncos would strike first in the bottom of the first inning as sophomore Carolina Watson would reach base on a fielder's choice as first-year Stephanie Huckabee would come in to score. It would be all Potsdam from that point on; the Bears would regain the lead in the second inning, putting up a four-spot. Kiara Lovejoy would lead the charge for the Bears with a 2-run home run, and Lexi Cottrill would follow suit in the next frame with a home run of her own to left field. Junior Riley Martin would attempt to keep Delhi in striking distance with an RBI single through the right side. Martin's single would extend her RBI streak to five consecutive games. In the end, it wouldn't be enough, as Potsdam would coast to an 11-2 victory.

Potsdam would ride the momentum into game two, plating six unanswered runs in the opening two frames. Stephanie Huckabee would cut the deficit to 6-2 in the bottom of the third with a two-run double right center, scoring senior Sidney Cooper and sophomore Cayla Moroni. The Bears would score runs in all but one inning, finishing the contest early in both games and claiming the 10-2 result.

The Broncos fall to 7-15 and will be back in action Saturday for an away conference doubleheader against Vermont State Johnson.
