Softball Battles Hard in Narrow Doubleheader Losses to Marywood

Dunmore, PA - The SUNY Delhi softball team was back in action Tuesday evening for a non-conference doubleheader against Marywood University. The Broncos look to build monteum entering a decisive six-game conference game stretch this upcoming weekend.

In game one, the Broncos would come out hot, scoring in the first inning for the tenth time this season, behind an RBI single up the middle from junior Riley Martin. The Pacers would respond in the bottom half of the inning with an RBI single of their own, tying the contest at one apiece. First-year Stephanie Huckabee would break the tie in the top of the third with an RBI double to left center. Huckabee would finish, recording another multi-hit game, leading the Broncos in hits on the season. Similarly to the first, the Pacers would again tie things up in the bottom half of the inning with a sacrifice fly. It would be Marywood breaking the tie this time, plating runs in the fourth and sixth innings to collect the narrow 4-2 victory.

Marywood would ride that momentum into game two, scoring three runs in the first inning with a bases clearing double. The Broncos would continue to prove their resilience, plating three runs in the top of the second. Delhi would cause havoc on the basepaths, scoring runs on a wild pitch and double steal. Riley Martin would follow with an RBI single to tie the contest at three apiece. Sophomore Jaden Taylor would finish the game perfect, going three for three, including an RBI single to give the Broncos the lead. It would be a back-and-forth contest that saw runs scored in every inning of action. The Pacers would tie things up in the bottom of the third before sophomore Carolina Watson would put Delhi back in front with an RBI single, scoring senior Sidney Cooper. The Pacers would eventually break the game open with a five-run fifth inning to earn the 9-7 result, recording the two-game sweep.

The Broncos fall to 8-18 and will return to action this weekend with conference matchups against Johnson and Lyndon.
