Oneonta, NY - The SUNY Delhi softball team was back in action Saturday afternoon to wrap up their four-game conference set with the Hornets of Lyndon. The Broncos enter play fresh off yesterday's doubleheader sweep, taking game two in walk-off fashion.
The Hornets would come out swinging, plating four runs in the opening frame headlined by a two-run homer from Claudia Knapp. As the rain would continue to pour in, Delhi would pick up right where they left off, scoring 10 runs in the bottom half. The Broncos would string together seven consecutive walks to score six and take the lead. Senior Danielle Seymour would add to the rally with an RBI single, followed by a two-run double to left center from first-year Stephanie Huckabee. The run fest would continue to start the second with the Hornets inching closer with a pair of RBI doubles from Lindsey Gannon and Knapp. The Broncos would keep their foot on the gas, responding with three runs capped off by another run-scoring extra base hit from Huckabee, growing the lead to 13-6. While the rain would come to a halt, the runs continued to pour, this time coming from senior Sidney Cooper launching a two-run double to the gap in left center. On her senior day, Seymour would record the win and close out the game early in the fifth, as the Broncos cruised to a 15-7 victory.
Similarly, in game two, Lyndon jumped out to an early lead, adding two in the opening inning. In repeat fashion, the Broncos would answer in the bottom half with three runs of their own to take the lead. Sophomore Carolina Watson entered play batting .500 in conference play and would remain red hot. Watson would open up the scoring for the Broncos with a two-run double down the left field line, followed by an RBI single from sophomore Jaden Taylor. Delhi would double down in the bottom of the second, adding two more runs to take a 5-2 lead. Sidney Cooper would shoot one through the left side, scoring one, paired with an RBI groundout from junior Riley Martin. Sophomore Kayleigh Allen would put together a strong start for Delhi, allowing just two hits through the first three innings. The Broncos would make it three straight innings with a score behind back-to-back RBI doubles from sophomores Hannah Caughey and Cayla Moroni. Lyndon would battle back, plating three runs in the fourth to cut the deficit to two. Delhi would slam the door on a comeback attempt, surpassing double digits for the second game in a row. In consecutive innings, Caughey would produce this time with a two-run triple to the wall in right center. Sophomore Angelina Dickel would finish things off on the bump for the Broncos, recording the win, allowing no runs on just one hit over 3.2 innings to secure the 11-5 victory and complete the four-game sweep.
The Broncos improve to 12-18, 5-5 in conference play, and finish up conference play with a makeup doubleheader against the Badgers of Johnson.
