Softball Secures Doubleheader Sweep with Dramatic Walk-Off Victory in Game Two

Oneonta, NY - The SUNY Delhi softball team opened up weekend play with a conference doubleheader against the Hornets of Lyndon. It would be a battle of familiar faces, with both sides having gone head-to-head earlier in the season that saw the Broncos getting the best of the Hornets. Lyndon entered play with a 3-3 conference record, as Delhi started the day at 1-5 in conference play.

In game one, sophomore Angelina Dickel would take the bump for the Broncos, firing from the start and holding the Hornets scoreless in the opening three frames. Delhi would eventually break the tie in the bottom of the third with a four-run inning. Junior Riley Martin would score the game's opening run on a wild pitch, followed by an RBI double from sophomore Carolina Watson. Senior Danielle Seymour would keep the line moving with an RBI single up the middle, followed by an RBI groundout from sophomore Hannah Caughey. The Hornets would plate their first run of the day on a fielder's choice in the top of the fourth to cut the deficit to 4-1. Sophomore Jaden Taylor would respond in the bottom half of the inning with a two-run single through the right side to give the Broncos a 6-1 lead. Seymour, Caughey, and first-year Carolina Bernard would add insurance RBIs in the later frames, as the Broncos would total nine runs on the day. Dickel would continue her dominance, finishing the day recording a complete game on just two earned runs. Delhi would take the first of a four-game weekend against Lyndon by a score of 9-2.

Delhi would ride that momentum into game two, striking early with a run in the opening frame. First-year Stephanie Huckabee continues to produce, doubling to the wall in left field and scoring senior Sidney Cooper. The Broncos pitching clinic would continue this time behind the arm of Danielle Seymour, holding the Hornets to just two hits after three innings of play. The Hornets would finally break through in the fourth, taking the lead behind a pair of RBIs from Riley McNamara and Shyanne Glencross. The outfield trio of Angelina Dickel, Carolina Bernard, and Cayla Moroni would string together a stretch of stellar plays to keep the Broncos within one. In the bottom half of the sixth, Moroni would score on an error, tying the contest at two apiece. Delhi, having defeated Lyndon in walk-off fashion earlier this season, would be no stranger to the moment. It would take ten innings of action to separate the two sides, as first-year Adrienne Neff would record the walk-off sacrifice fly, giving the Broncos the 3-2 victory.

The Broncos improve to 10-18, 3-5 in conference play, and will return to action tomorrow to wrap up their four-game set.
