Historic Weekend: Softball Sweeps 6-Game Conference Slate as Angelina Dickel Throws Program’s First-Ever No-Hitter

Oneonta, NY - The SUNY Delhi softball team wrapped up their six-game conference weekend with a makeup doubleheader against the Badgers of Johnson to finish up their regular season.

Looking to build on their four-game win streak and earn their third consecutive doubleheader sweep, sophomore Angelina Dickel would take the rubber in game one and later make history. The Broncos would eventually break through in the third as junior Riley Matin would score two on an RBI double to left center. First-year Stephanie Huckabee and sophomore Carolina Watson continue to produce at the top of Delhi's lineup with a pair of RBI singles to take a 4-0 lead. That would be all Dickel needed, holding Johnson scoreless and recording a total of four strikeouts. Delhi would extend their lead in the following frame with a six-run rally headlined by a two-run double from senior Sidney Cooper and a pair of RBI singles from Martin and first-year Julian Ponce. The attention would flip back to Dickel as she would enter the final frame three outs away from a no-hitter. In fitting fashion, Dickel would record back-to-back strikeouts to seal the deal. The New Jersey native would write her name in the record books, earning the first no-hitter in program history.

The Broncos would follow with an offensive explosion in game two, totaling a season-high 22 runs. Delhi would tally 18 hits, scoring multiple runs in each inning of play. Sidney Cooper joined the 100 career hits club, recording three hits and 5 RBIs, capped off by an inside-the-park home run. Carolina Bernard would follow suit, also posting a three-hit performance with 2 RBIs. Sophomores Hannah Caughey and Angelina Dickel each totalled 3 RBI days, headlined by run-scoring triples. Lastly, first-year Adrienne Neff would finish a perfect 4-4 at the plate, adding 3 RBIs of her own. The Broncos make it four straight games of scoring double-digit runs as they earn the commanding 22-7 victory.

The Broncos finish the regular season 14-18, 7-5 in conference play, and will return to the conference playoffs as the #2 seed in the NAC west division.
